THE HISTORY AND MISSION OF THE SBPA
The San Bruno Police Association was formed more than 45 years ago by a group of employees representing the members of the San Bruno Police Department. All employees in the association are interested in the welfare of their profession by ensuring, with the help of our labor union, Teamsters Local 856 (www.teamsterslocal856.com), a fair, safe and equitable workplace can be enjoyed by all. Our Association does so by representing our members in matters of policy, salaries, work conditions, employment grievances/disputes, and all other matters relating to the general welfare of the members thereof.

Besides representing its members, the San Bruno Police Association donates time and money to many charitable causes within the local area and across the nation. The Association sponsors or contributes to local programs such as the annual San Bruno Police "SANTA COPS" project and a variety of local youth sports teams, as well as national programs for the disabled like the Special Olympics (www.sonc.org) and PARCA (www.PARCA.org), in addition to other educational and community programs. Over the years, the San Bruno Police Association has donated tens of thousands of dollars to many worthy charities, great causes and important projects, primarily focused on children, the disabled, the elderly, students, young athletes and volunteer organizations.

One major purpose of our Association is to render aid when necessary to widows and orphans of any of our deceased members. We also contribute funds to other law enforcement-family support charities such as National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial Fund (www.nleomf.com) and Concerns of Police Survivors or "C.O.P.S." (www.nationalcops.org). The Association also participates in a local the "Police Week" and our members attend Police Memorial services to pay respect to those officers who have "paid the ultimate price" as a result of being killed in-the-line-of-duty and lend support to their families.

The Mission of the San Bruno Police Association shall be:

· To organize its members for the purpose of developing a spirit of cooperation among those who have dedicated themselves to Law Enforcement.

· To furnish representation to its members in matters of policy, salaries, and all other matters relating to the general welfare of the members thereof.

· To oppose any organization or group which expounds or promotes any doctrine or philosophy inimical or subversive of the fundamental principles and institutions of the United States of America, and this Association.

· To establish and maintain a better understanding of the forces of Law Enforcement and the public whom they serve.

· To promulgate community support through active participation in civic functions in The City of San Bruno.
